Basic Grid Tie: A solar array produces power during the day, and an inverter synchronizes this power with that supplied by the utility. Your home uses solar energy first, and draws whatever else it needs from your utility. At night, the utility supplies 100% of your power. Grid Tie + Backup: Your solar system functions the same way as a basic grid tie system, delivering power to your home during the day. But your system also has battery storage. In the event of grid power failure, your inverter switches to battery power to supply your home’s needs. This keeps your important equipment running during outages or brownouts.
